EL GAIRA

The story begins in 1968. The drawings of the vessel were produced by the architect and seaman Rafael Obregón as well as the direction of the works. The assembling of the hull was done in the town of Bocachica in the island of Tierrabomba, by the carpenters Guillermo Silva, Manuel Roca, Carmelo León, Antonio Cuadrado and Manuel Viaña; After 3 years, finally the Gaira was launched and towed to Club de Pesca to install the masts and rigging. Mrs. Loly Echavarría was the interior and deck designer. Beautiful woodworks in closet doors, lamps and drawers in Abarco, Red Mangrove and Teka wood. Finally, in 1973 the Gaira started sailing all around the Caribbean sea, Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, up today.
